Pilates Chair includes sequences of gentle exercises
designed to strengthen and condition the entire body. Most
movements are done while seated with some when standing. For
musicians – special focus will be on exercises that help
prevent and overcome effects from sitting too long and being
under tension. Overall strength and flexibility as well as
hand and wrist maintenance will be integrated into the
class, plus a little Q&A time.
Need: armless chair
Jessie Mayes’ love of dance and fitness has taken her from
dance lessons at age 7 to earning a B.F.A. in Dance Science;
studying with several dance companies including the Radio
City Rockettes; performing in Disneyland Parades; teaching
dance; and now performing in musicals in Colorado theaters.
Recently, she played Alonzo, a tabby alley cat in “Cats”.
Parallel to her dance activities Jessie earned her Pilates
mat certification and has been an instructor for HB Pilates
& Fitness since September 2019 for a variety of classes
including Pilates mat, chair and cardio barre. Jessie is
part of this unique team that transitioned from in-person to
online classes during the COVID-19 shutdown to encourage
movement and mobility using Pilates principles and a few
simple props in a convenient format.
Testimonial from Barbara Gershman, SCDH Co-Pres.:
“Taking HB Pilates online classes 3-4 times a week has kept
me moving throughout and after the pandemic. All the
certified instructors are encouraging and inspiring and are
experts in online teaching. Jillian Hardwick, owner of HB
Pilates, makes all this possible.”
